“オクラホマ州議会の上院議選に第32区から民主党公認で出馬。9,809票を獲得し、35票の僅差で共和党のイーストン候補を破り初当選した。2006年11 月には63.34%の得票率で勝利し再選を果たしている。アメリカでは野球選手としての知名度は高くないが、地元オクラホマでは障害者へのボランティア団体や警察、消防関係者などから支持され、政治家としての手腕が高く評価されて、国政への参加を期待する声も高まっている。”
